Puzzling...

My Dad takes great pleasure in gifting us with a challenging (ie: nearly impossible) puzzle each Christmas and this year he really delivered.

Initially we enjoyed a few evenings of working on it together and bit by bit the NYC skyline appeared before our eyes. Until, finally, all that was left was the sky…all blue pieces…maddening…..

After about 3 months of looking at the unfinished puzzle on the dining room table I threatened to put it back in the box.

Not being one to give up easily, Dave put the puzzle on a sheet of cardboard and moved it out to the Westy.

And there it sat, for weeks. Dave plugged away, but it was slow going. I was no help; I had given up on the thing months ago.

Eventually Dave became convinced that a few pieces had to be missing, so he measured the pieces, drew grid lines and counted the number of pieces vs spaces.

They matched! No missing pieces. Being the determined guy that he is, Dave plugged away at it here and there always with the thought in the back of his mind that he had to finish the puzzle before he started working on the Westy (knowing that I was not going to allow it back in the house on the table).

Finally, success! I came home one evening to discover the finished puzzle. On the dining room table. And there it sits. Again. Dave has declared that he’s not moving it until Dad comes over to witness the finished product.

Dear Dad, can you come over soon?!

  1. Excellent post and puzzle! The gridlines are particularly impressive, leave it to Dave...

  2. Wow! Almost as much fun as the puzzle of our wedding photo! Maybe you could invite your Dad over for lunch and tell him he can't eat until the table is cleaned off.
